River Stories

An open village

"You guys are the first people that taught us the Truth - God's word. Now we know the truth."

Year 2014, we went to the interiors of Eastern Samar to the tribes of Waray-waray people. From Oras town, we rode a boat for four hours and walked 30 minutes on the narrow and difficult path to the village. At first we thought, we were not welcome. Later, one of the village leaders asked us to sign our names on a  logbook for record purposes. His name is Tatay Alfredo.  We got the chance to witness to him and by God's grace he received Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Three weeks after 150 people received Christ as Lord and Savior and twelve of them followed  in baptism. One of the new believers said "You guys are the first people that taught us the Truth - God's word. Now we know the truth."

The new believers decided to meet together every Sunday for group Bible Study and Worship.

The scripture says, "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And, how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?"

Even in far places, hearts prepared by God are eager to receive the Gospel. There are more Waray villages with people waiting. Join us this summer and let’s take the Good News to them!
